How to Upgrade LG THRILL 4G P925

We are pleased to announce that the Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) upgrade for the LG Thrill™ 4G is now available. The upgrade includes a number of enhancements from native Google ICS OS and various user interface improvements from LG such as:

  • QuickMemo™: Instantly capture any screen image on your phone, so you can add comments, drawings, humor, and share your personalized message with everyone.
  • Cheese Shutter: Activate the “Cheese Shutter” camera setting and take photos or self-portraits simply by saying “Cheese”.
  • New Lock Screen Actions: Conveniently jump directly to a specific application without unlocking the home screen.
  • Home Screen Folder and Favorites Tray: Group your apps and shortcuts logically by simply dragging one onto another.
  • Redesigned Gallery App. & Photo Editor: Easier to manage, show, and share photos and videos than ever before.
  • Quick Setting Buttons: From the Notification Bar you can now set shortcuts to many features such as Bluetooth Toggle, Wi-Fi Toggle, Sound Toggle, Airplane Mode, and more.

Certain features or applications preloaded onto this device will no longer be available after your update is complete. More information can be found here        .

 

Disclaimer: Actual network speeds depend on network availability, coverage levels, tasks, file characteristics, applications and other factors. Performance may be impacted by transmission limitations, terrain, in-building/in-vehicle use and capacity constraints.

Preparation

 

1. Fully charge the battery.

 

2. Save any important data before updating the software on your device. Any data not saved on a micro SD card or PC may be erased; i.e. contacts, images, etc. To backup your data, connect your phone to a PC via the USB cable. After connecting, select Mass storage mode on your phone. Copy personal folders to your PC, i.e. DCIM (photos, videos), Downloads, Music, etc.

You may also download a third party backup solution using the Play store on your device.

 

3. Remove the microSD memory card.

 

4. Close all open applications on your computer before proceeding with the update.

 

5. Ensure device Mass storage only mode is NOT selected.  From the Home Screen, tap Apps  > Settings  > SD card & phone storage settings 

 

Note: Calling and messaging functions are not available during the update process.

The entire upgrade process varies depending on software package size, internet connection speed, and PC configuration.

The handset will go through various states throughout the update process. The tool will notify you when the update is complete.

 

PC Requirements: 1GHz or higher Pentium-compatible processor At least 512 MB of RAM (memory) Windows 2000 (SP4 or later) or Windows XP (SP1 or SP2), Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8. Administration rights on the PC for software installation may be required and a high-speed Internet connection is recommended.

SECTION ONE – Ensure Your Driver is Up to Date

Download and install the latest driver listed below before connecting to your PC. Please select Runwhen prompted. When you are finished continue to step 2.

SECTION TWO – Restart Your Computer

Make sure to bookmark this page. When you restart your computer, click on your bookmark to return to this page and install the LG Mobile Support Tool.

SECTION THREE – Install the LG Mobile Support Tool

The LG Mobile Support Tool will easily help you update the software for your device. Please selectRun when prompted.

SECTION FOUR – Connect Device and Start Update

1. Connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable included with your device.

 

Note: Ensure the tool shows Model (LGP925) and Version (20p or your current version). If not, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.

2. A notice for ICS upgrade will display, click Close to continue.
3. Click Start Upgrade within the LG Mobile Support Tool to begin.

a. Device will progress through Analysis, Download, Upgrade and Complete during the update process.
b. In Analysis step, at approx. 50% completion a notice will display if upgrading from Froyo to ICS, click Start upgrade to continue.

c. In Upgrade step, at approx. 5% completion the device will power off and enter a download mode, this is normal. DO NOT DISCONNECT THE USB CABLE

d. In Upgrade step, at approx. 95% the device will power on, this may take several minutes. This is normal. DO NOT DISCONNECT THE USB CABLE!.
e. If your phone software upgrade stops before it has completed, please do not close the update tool and try the update again. Additional troubleshooting steps below.

 

4. When upgrade is complete, you will see the following:

 

If upgrading from Froyo to Gingerbread

 

Upgrade to Gingerbread is complete will display, click Stop upgrade.
5. Click Exit, then click OK

 

Note: If upgrading from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich, you will see this prompt to confirm upgrade is complete.
6. The device will reconnect to the LG Mobile Support Tool.

If upgrading from Froyo to Gingerbread the device will reconnect to the tool and display theNotice for the Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade. Repeat from Step 2 of Section 4 to complete the update to Ice Cream sandwich.

If upgrading from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich the device will reconnect to the tool. When connected, observe the version number indicates the latest SW (V30B). It is now OK TO DISCONNECT THE USB CABLE. 

Troubleshooting

If the phone software upgrade stopped before completion, please don’t close the update tool and try to update again following original instructions.

If you closed the update tool already and the phone will not turn on normally, please follow the below steps

 

1. Remove back cover and battery.

 

2. Record IMEI/ESN/MEID from device label in battery well.

 

3. Replace battery and back cover.

 

4. Open LG Mobile Support Tool.

 

5. Connect the device to PC via USB Cable.

 

6. From the help menu, select Options > Upgrade Recovery.

7. Input the Model name and Serial or IMEI/ESN/MEID and press OK.

 

8. After checking the phone information, it will start to update automatically. If it does not work the device may require service to attempt recovery.
